Art

At Euler we want to capture the pupils’ interest and ignite a love for art and design.  We believe that art and design is a subject that fosters pupil’s imagination and opens them up to a world of colour, pattern, shape, line, shade, texture and form.  It is a subject that gives our pupils the opportunity to express and explore without limits or judgement.  Pupils at Euler know that they can always succeed and achieve during lessons and that their SEN needs do not limit their ability to participate and take part.  All ideas are embraced and channelled and pupils know that they can express themselves creatively in a safe and stimulating environment.  Pupils are encouraged to challenge themselves and unlock their inner artist.   The curriculum is progressive and allows pupils to build on their skills through passionately delivered, high quality lessons which promote individual expressions, interpretation and imagination.

At Euler, we value Art and Design as a vital part of the children’s entitlement to a broad and balanced curriculum. Art and Design allows curiosity, creativity and self- expression to develop whilst also providing the children with opportunities to improve their resilience, problem solving and critical thinking skills.  It also promotes Euler pupils to improve their concentration and confidence. The curriculum is designed to open the pupils eyes to the world of art and design and allows them to experience a variety of disciplines through well planned, sequential lessons.  We intend to provide our pupils with the skills, concepts and knowledge necessary for them to express individual responses to ideas and experiences in a visual or tactile way.  Pupils’ art and design journey is evidenced in their sketchbooks which celebrate achievements and express their views and opinions to critically assess and ask questions about both their own work and the work of famous artists. The curriculum develops the pupils’ knowledge and understanding of a variety of art and design disciplines and the associated artists, craft makers and designers.   Key vocabulary is embedded during all lessons to develop pupils’ awareness of art appreciation, development and contextual knowledge.
